What Qualification & Skills Are Required?
Qualification
While there is no formal national qualification required to become a caregiver in South Africa, the following qualification is often preferred or required:
- Minimum Grade 10 or 12 (Matric) certificate.
- Relevant caregiving training or certification is a plus.
- First Aid and CPR certification is often required or highly recommended.
- For those who want to provide a higher level of medical care, a basic nursing qualification is required.
Skills & Experience
Skills like communication, empathy, and reliability, along with meeting any specific requirements set by clients, will help in pursuing a career in this field. If you have experience in cooking, cleaning or caring for others, that’s a bonus. Basic literacy and numeracy skills are important. If you have a job or experience with similar goals and responsibilities, we would love to connect with you.
Characteristics
This is an autonomous position, so we are looking for individuals that are compassionate, social, trustworthy, self-motivated and willing to learn through experience and receiving feedback.
